The additional safety instructions for your Thermomix®

The quality of our products and the satisfaction of our customers, like you, have always been the highest priority for us at Vorwerk. Our quality management and stringent safety systems are designed to ensure that we consistently meet Vorwerk’s high quality standards. This applies especially to Thermomix®.

With more than 8 million TM6 and TM5 appliances sold worldwide, Thermomix® has been enjoying great popularity for many years and has by far the highest number of such food processors in the market. Moreover, as a direct sales organisation, we maintain a close relationship with Thermomix® advisors and customers worldwide. This allows us to identify rare areas of concern that can impair the use of the Thermomix® very early on.

We have observed a few cases in the market where a problem has arisen when using the Thermomix®. This is why, we have therefore decided as a precautionary measure to issue a voluntary public warning on 23 August 2022 about this problem, which could potentially occur.

Enhanced cooking safety reminders

When the standard measuring cup is inserted in the Thermomix® TM6, it fits tightly in the lid, preventing it from falling out when the mixing bowl lid is removed. The measuring cup on the TM6 is designed so that sufficient steam from the mixing bowl can escape at the edges when cooking or simmering. However, during the cooking process or when following certain recipes, ingredients can float to the top, become compressed and prevent steam from escaping.

Consequently, in extremely rare cases, increased pressure can build up in the mixing bowl during cooking or simmering (or heating at temperatures of 95°C , which can lead to a sudden and uncontrolled spillage of hot food, which may cause burns. It should be noted that the likelihood of overflowing occurs when food content are overfilled or exceed recommended recipes.

The new Software Update

A New software update (SW3.5) with cooking reminders to improve cooking results and cooking safety.

For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl. This is a simple but necessary measure that will hardly affect the cooking experience yet can prevent this potential problem from occurring.

Avoid overfilling the bowl

The existing maximum fill level for the mixing bowl (2.2L for the Thermomix® TM6 and Thermomix® TM5) must always be adhered to.

Soups, casseroles and jams

Soups, casseroles and jams must always be cooked at a temperature no higher than 100°C. For recipes that require a higher temperature, the Varoma® is to be used, as designated in the recipe.

Recipes that require a simmering basket

Certain recipes call for the simmering basket to be used in the mixing bowl. For these recipes, the measuring cup can still be used.

The difference between TM6 and TM5 measuring cup

This situation does not arise if a TM5 measuring cup is used, as the measuring cup for the TM5 sits loosely in the lid of the mixing bowl. Users of a predecessor model should check whether they are using a TM6 measuring cup. If a TM6 measuring cup, which fits tightly in the lid, is being used, this information will also apply to predecessor models.

Guided and Manual Cooking adaptations

As part of the continuous Thermomix® development, we have already adapted the recipes available in Guided Cooking to reflect this so you can continue cooking with the correct use. What’s more, the software for the Thermomix® TM6 has been updated and is readily available on your device when connected to WiFi. Please accept the new software update to receive additional safety instructions when cooking without the use of the Guided Cooking function as well.

We are also actively providing information on this voluntary and precautionary measure in our updated instruction manual, on our recipe platform Cookidoo® and at product demonstrations.
